For an AddOn you pay for...

... I'm sorry to say it's not worth it.  I dropped a few dollars on the trial run, and thankfully it was only that.  I don't mean to talk down on what you've created here, but compared to the free AddOn's like "QuestHelper", this isn't worth the money.

Not only does it destroy my UI with it's terrible shapes and sizes (Again, sorry to be blunt.) but I have to carry the damned thing.  QuestHelper made me a map of things to do, and sure it wasn't always ideal, but at least it looked nice.

Carbonite doesn't even draw a map, it has these UGLY blocks of white and red and I make my way to them, and if I want an arrow, I have to keep on opening my quest log, keep clicking "Track" and I get a fault arrow that has me walking through mountains towards a big block of red .. or white.

I'm going to assume that I am using this product wrong.  As of this post, I am deleting the folder and going back to QuestHelper, and I guess you can keep my money.  But, in the off chance that I haven't insulted you enough to the point where you want to help me understand this product;  many thanks.  Sorry to blow up like this with a cruel rant (And I'm sure I'll be flamed for it.) but man, I was REALLY disappointed, even after a co-worker talked this AddOn up with huge praise.

I am not surprised by your post. Everyone has an opinion and you have a right to yours. We designed Carbonite to work in a manner that we thought was easy to use. We and our testers liked the way it draws and points to the quest data. We cannot please everyone. We can only hope to please the majority of users. If you are used to the way quest helper works, then you may not like how Carbonite functions. I used quest helper for a bit and thought it was horrible, but at that time I was already happy with how Carbonite was functioning. To each his own.

    Take care.

I just wanted to state my opinion in rebuttal to the original poster.

I too was rather disappointed with the paid version when i first purchased it.  I did however continue to use it even though everything wasnt "optimimal". I look at the tracker and say hmmm...i'll need to run around this mtn range to get there...no biggie. I've also used metamaps waypoints and their no better at pathing. There are so many feaures in this I haven't learned them all, but I've learned the ones I need to to have an enjoyable gaming experience. Now when i go to my parents an play wow I wish I had the paid version there. I can, but it's a bit of a hassle to intall/uninstall the paid version for the free version every time. I love the quest log and database. I can look at the database and find quest i may have overlooked in an area. All in game not alt'tabbing out to find the quest info if you also use Lightheaded. Between Carbonite and lightheaded I almost always have all the info i need to complete any quest.

My only complaint now is I wish the quest tracking feature could learn over time and upload the data to the carbonite server for compilation. Only thing that wouldn't be feasible in this is the map colorations. Barebones data for the quest could be placed somewhere within a ToDo list or something.

Thanks for a great product that's still growing.

Re: For an AddOn you pay for...

I personally have come to really enjoy this add-on.  The first day after i paid for the full version I was able to clear my bogged questog and was 260g richer in a matter of about 1.5 to 2 hours.  I really hate questing.  I'd rather spend time raiding or doin instances and now I have no problem doin quests.   Some one made mention of maybe adding a Learn over time attribute to the addon which I would have to agree would be a great addition.  I've tried other quest helpers and always had a problem with them meesing up my other mods.  Not to say they were a bad mod but i had to drop other mods that i liked in order to use them.  Carbonite has no interference with my other mods and i can use it in so many different ways.  I think the pvp/battleground attribute is a little cheesy but it does save typing out Help INC LM!  Though now that i think about it, it does help me manage and prioritize which nodes would need assistance first, second, and so on.  I believe if i were on a premade with others having carbonite it would stand that a 5 cap  spawn camp would be a sure thing everytime.

Steve spend a few minutes learning how to use the addon and you might like it a bit more...

First there is nothing wrong with the shapes. Just because they don't work in your UI... You can resize everything so I'm not seeing where that is a problem.

You say Carbonite does not draw a map. Well I've never used QH but I love the google maps-esque maps Carbonite gives you. Lets you see the actual terrain and everything in it, it's awesome. I don't know how many times I've run into mountains or very large hills that the default map does not show yet the Carbonite map does when zoomed in far enough.

You can turn off the "ugly blocks of red and white" but personally I do like how they show you the area you should be working in. You can turn on auto tracking for all watched quests and it will automatically move from one quest to the next. Sometimes Carbonite does not pick the best option for the next one but it's fairly simple to open the watch list and click the button for the next one you want tracked.

The only real issue I see that you brought up is the straight line tracking. Yeah that sucks if you can't think for yourself but seriously is it that big a deal? I could be wrong but I do believe Faatal said they have this feature on the to-do list. I think QH has had years of people manually plotting out the waypoints to give you a path.

Re: For an AddOn you pay for...

I use Carbonite for 2-3 months and I can say its worth every cent, much more helpful than Cartographer for example. This addon was very sucking but carbonite is (configured properly) great because of tracking not only quest areas, pickup items but also Traders, Auction Houses, mailboxes an trainers. I replaced the big map so it just uses the window map on the left and thats it. The only thing I would like to get from carbonite is a Spanish localization (cause I´m going to learn it and it just learns easier by playing) if this could be implemented as you did with German recently

Carbonite actually works great alongside QuestHelper, and the little tracking arrow will guide you around to QH's waypoints.  You get QH's quest system and Carbonite's awesome features in one, what more do you need?

We are going in order of number of servers for the language. French is next. There are not many Spanish servers.

Actually it needs a little work, if you cancel the waypoint there's no way to see it again without restarting questhelper. A nice feature suggestion for the next version of carbonite would be to map questhelper waypoints over to the zoomable carbonite map, then it'll be perfect.

Re: For an AddOn you pay for...

Doubt this will happen as this addon is meant to directly replace it actually (given time), would sort of be shooting himself in the foot

Given that, the waypoints will show on the minimap, however you just can't see all the QH waypoints on the main map

I'd prefer spending time improving our goto (waypoint) features. The flight master routing in 1.69 is working pretty nicely now. Adding portals, boats and blimps will be next and some type of multiple quest tracking.

The routing is off by default since it is still in beta. Enable it in the map options. "Use travel routing (beta)".

Re: For an AddOn you pay for...

I've used addons since the beginning.  Trial and error.  Keep some, delete others.  Carbonite like any addon has a learning curve; though by far this has the shortest curve.  I too played around with the features of this addon.  When I fricked the map appearance, I used the reset and started again until I found out how everything works.  I already had (4) high level toons, (2) of which were 70 before I even saw this addon.  Even better, it works for both Horde & Alliance.  You don't have to buy each (side).

IMHO there is no product out there like this and one that continues to update and expand options.  And the costs for full features is "peanuts".  You make it sound like you joined Amway and lost all your money.

I hope they add a "blacklist" option.  I like to make notes on other players without having to make them a pal/friend first.
